Karrie (Karol Ann) Schwartz
Karrie Schwartz practices in the areas of contract, tort, insurance, commercial, professional liability defense, 42 U.S.C. §1983, and employment litigation.
Karrie graduated with her B.A. in political science from Emory University in Atlanta, where she was a member of the Barkley Forum Debating Society. After attending her first year of law school at night at Georgia State College of Law, while teaching high school during the day, Karrie moved home to the Chicago area and received her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago Kent College of Law, with high honors in 2003. While in law school, Karrie received CALI awards for the highest grades in Business Organizations; Civil Procedure; Energy Law; Environmental Law & Policy II; Estates & Trusts; Legal Drafting; and Property Law. She was a Teaching Assistant for Civil Procedure while in law school and was elected to the Order of the Coif, a legal honorary society, in 2004. She also was a judicial extern to the Honorable Blanche M. Manning of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Karrie has litigated a wide variety of cases including trials involving products liability, medical malpractice, other civil torts, and 42 U.S.C. §1983. Karrie has extensive experience across the civil litigation spectrum including premises liability; class actions; professional malpractice; insurance coverage; declaratory judgments; professional liability; FDCPA and FCRA matters; the Tort Claims Act; indemnification; subrogation; and business and contract disputes.
Karrie is proficient in French and is a member of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana and the Lake County Bar. She has served on the Board of Editors of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana for the Indiana Civil Litigation Review since 2019.
Building on her personal involvement in competitive debate since the age of 12, Karrie founded the award-winning Wilbur Wright Middle School debate program in 2021, and has coached the team ever since. In the past, she chaired the local PTO beautification committee and volunteered as an elementary school teacher. She also served on the MPN Impact Council for the MPN Research Foundation, headquartered in Chicago, and has testified to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on behalf of the MPN Foundation.
Karrie lives in Munster with her husband, two children, three golden retrievers, and two cats.
